Digg up the Reality!

August 26, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

Social-news networking sites had promised to reinvent the method of bringing the best news to the front page. They claim that the stories with the most votes are the ones that reach the front page. Digg for example is one of the web’s top 100 most visited websites and currently has more than 20 Million monthly users. Digg claims that whatever submission gets the votes the higher it rises in the index eventually reaching the top
some what calling itself a democracy.

Qliktech has exposed the reality behind Digg, by creating a tool called the Dugg analyser, which monitors traffic trends on Digg. The trends show that 60% of the links that appear on the front page of the website are posted by 1 of Diggs 100 most active users. Which is partly due to the fact that the most active users know what stories will rise to the top, but mainly due to their influence on the website. The number of friends they have and the number of people they know.

As a result the fact is that this group of insiders control what submissions reach to the top. Having one of those top 100 users on your contact list could make your website the next big buzz.
