A study shows that a growing number of people use cellphones for text messaging instead of phone calls particularly by teenagers. Many teenagers give preferentiality to them to actually talking. Almost overnight, text messages have become the favored way of communication for millions.

But as they can pose danger by distracting users, those messages are coming under increasing fire day by day. Number of serious accidents stem from texting while driving, crossing the street or engaging in other activities is on the rise, as proved by various evidences though lacking official casualty statistics.

Paul Saffo, a technology trend forecaster in Silicon Valley stated that10 I.Q. points get removed automatically by act of texting.

After federal investigators declared that a train engineer’s text-messaging may possibly have played a role in the country’s most fatal commuter rail accident in four decades The California Public Utilities Commission announced an emergency measure on Thursday in the most recent reaction in opposition to text-messaging provisionally prohibiting the use of all mobile devices by anyone at the controls of a moving train.

As the technology has improved with the introduction of products like the Apple iPhone, the application has increased speedily in the last few years in the United States. According to CTIA — the Wireless Association, the leading industry trade group in US 7.2 billion text massages were sent in June 2005 while in this June, 75 billion text messages were sent.

Now every one prefers text massaging rather than to talk on phone and this practice distracts the mind and attention of the user causing fatal accidents. To control this situation various steps are necessary to be taken.

USA Takes Lead in IPv6, Next-Gen Internet Equipment Certifications

September 18, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

ATLANTA, Sept 17, 2008 - InfoWeapons, provider of next generation Internet Protocol (IPv6) appliances and secure applications, announces helping the U.S. move into the lead in “IPv6 Ready” Gold level certifications worldwide, for the first time. IPv6 is positioned to be the standard protocol for the next-generation Internet, by 2010. As of August 2008, the U.S. has 68 Gold certified products compared with 53 from Japan (2nd place), 23 from Taiwan (3rd place) and 19 from China (4th place).
The total number of IPv6 Ready gold certified products worldwide is 181.

“IPv6 will be the ‘deep Internet infrastructure’ of the 21st Century, driving the next generation of telephony, broadcast entertainment, smart sensor and control networks, online gaming, and more,” says Lawrence E. Hughes, founder and chairman of InfoWeapons. “After years of lonely pioneering, I’m thrilled and gratified to see IPv6 coming to life in the USA.”

The U.S. uses roughly 70% of all the available, IPv4 addresses. Asia, which has the largest populations and the highest growth rates of new Internet users, has been most aggressive in adoption and implementation of IPv6. Europe is in second place with the U.S. and the Rest of the World (ROW) among the slowest adopters. Japan, Korea and China view this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to take over leadership and control of the Internet in the 21st Century. Each continues to invest heavily in IPv6.

“Since it takes up to 2 years to migrate to IPv6, ARIN (America Registry for Internet Numbers) and RIPE (Reseaux IP Europeens), respectively the U.S. and EU organizations in charge of IP address allocation, have warned all organizations in their regions to start migration immediately, or face unnecessary costs and disruption,” said Luis Gopez, CEO of InfoWeapons.
“This urgency is finally leading U.S. companies to invest in IPv6 product development and service deployment.”

The World Converts To IPv6 By 2010

IPv6 is the next generation Internet Protocol. Today’s IPv4 TCP/IP runs out of addresses in August 2010, based upon the current uptake of IP Addresses. The next-generation, IPv6 with a 128-bit address space, enables an enormously greater number of new devices and services, replacing IPv4 within 10 years. Although some applications can run over either IPv4 or IPv6, newer applications, features, and functionalities will increasingly require IPv6. These include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Internet Protocol TeleVision (IPTV), Peer-to-Peer (P2P) direct communications, and Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Taiwan, alone, plans to connect about 3 billion devices to the Internet by 2010. Globally, this implies an explosion in the number of devices and services.

Samsung’s Offer of $5.85 Billion for SanDisk is rejected

September 17, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

A Silicon Valley maker of flash memory cards that are vital components of famous devices like MP3 music players and digital cameras SanDisk has rejected $5.85 billion cash offer by Samsung Electronics, the South Korean consumer electronics giant.

Samsung presented to pay $26 a share for SanDisk, above 90 percent over its closing price of $15.04 in an offer initially made in August and exposed to investors following the American markets closed Tuesday.

As investors responded to the spontaneous bid SanDisk shares went up almost 50 percent to approximately $23 in after-hours trading.

But SanDisk rejected the proposal made by Samsung Electronics but would not rule out the deal at a better price.

Every year Samsung Electronics pays almost $350 million to use SanDisk’s patented flesh technology. Purchase of SanDisk would help the company to cut this cost as well as broaden the South Korean firm’s leadership in flash memory market as the industry is struggling with sharp memory chip price falls due to supply superfluity.

SanDisk stated that Samsung Electronics offer is underestimating the company’s value and rejected the deal though it stated that it is open for the deal with Samsung Electronics at a price which is justifiable for the company’s value.

According to Samsung’s spokesperson the company yet not decided whether it will raise its bid.
