Oracle step in the field of hardware for the first time
For the first time in the history of 31 years, Oracle Corp. proposed to sell computer hardware. This step indicates its intention to expand its business to hardware market also from just a one-stop shop for business software.
Chief Executive Larry Ellison announced the expansion plan on Wednesday. He described the plan to sell Hewlett-Packard Co.’s made “database machine” and a smaller storage product.
Both the pieces of hardware are created to allow the companies to get stored information from Oracle’s database software more speedily as well as taking up a smaller amount of space in corporate data centers.
Ellison stated that database machine will cost $650,000 and store as much as 168 terabytes.
Oracle is intending to emasculate other hardware makers such as-data warehouse appliances seller- Netezza Corp. by entering into the new field of hardware.
This HP-Oracle partnership is supposed to drain off sales from storage providers like EMC Corp. and IBM Corp.
Till than Oracle is investing money in its software application section to attract as many as corporate customers who like to buy as many programs as possible from a single seller.
Wednesday Oracle’s shares improved 26 cents.
