Record Companies team up with SanDisk and launched SlotMusic cards
To answer decline music sale, record companies are mixing up to find the novel ways to distribute music. In this flow record companies such as EMI Music, Sony BMG, Universal Music, and Warner Music have joined forces with memory card maker SanDisk.
This effort delivered the latest result in form of SlotMusic card. SlotMusic cards is a microSD card and includes music in MP3 format without DRM (digital rights management), playable on pouch devices like mobile phones. SanDisk is the developer of the technology that is supporting slotMusic.
Users can add their own contents with the help of a PC as the cards will ship with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) adapter as well as it will be capable to hold 1G byte of data.
Companies stated that inclusive list of slotMusic albums; availability and pricing will be declared in time for the coming holiday season. Initially SlotMusic cards will be offered at brick-and-mortar and online stores all over the U.S., together with Best Buy and Wal-Mart though instigate in Europe is also to pursue. Artist list is yet not clear whose music will be included in the new format but slotMusic Web site suggest only that year’s biggest releases will be available in it.
According to an analyst at CCS Insight users are dependent on memory cards for storing all kinds of data because built in storage is still an inadequate resource on most mobile phones.
