Now here is something new and exciting! The Walt Disney Co. is releasing an iPhone application that will now reward you for poking through the Disney.com website. This might also one day offer you exclusive bonuses for activities such as shopping at Disney Stores!

This free application from Walt Disney debuts in the iTunes application stores on Wednesday. This feature called Click2Life offers bonus animations to its users who follow clues to take cell-phone pictures of characters from movies such as “Up,” “G-Force,” “Ratatouille,” and “Wall-E” on the website.

Further, taking a correct picture will help you unlock an exclusive video and downloadable content such as frame images that can be overlaid on photos, or wallpaper images for cell phone screens.
In the near future, Walt Disney said it can also roll out exclusive bonus content to be delivered to phones based on their location.

Jason Davis, vice president of Disney.com, said the main purpose of the app was to deepen fan relationships with Disney characters. “We treat it just as a unique content experience.”

Apple Event Marks a Series of Launches

September 10, 2009 · Filed Under News · Comment

Tech giant Apple made a series of announcements on Wednesday at the Yerba Buena Center of Arts, San Francisco, the most notable of which was the iPod Nano launched with a built-in video camera.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself rolled out the offerings in his first public appearance since the rejoined the company after a six-month medical leave. “I’m vertical” pronounced Jobs, thus putting to rest concerns about his health ever since news emerged last year that he was suffering from liver complications. In January this year Jobs went on a medical leave during which he underwent a liver transplant.

However the biggest news from Apple was the introduction of a newly-spruced up iPod Nano which now comes with a built-in video camera, a pedometer as well as an FM radio tuner. The newer versions of the tiny music player have been priced at $149 and $179.

Among other launches announced by Apple was a newer version of the iPhone which, with a 64 GB memory, will have twice as much storage capacity as its earlier models. Apple also improved iTunes music software by adding a new feature called Genius. This popular feature will enable users to search for music based on the songs they already have in their collection.

The iTunes app store is a new industry

September 9, 2008 · Filed Under News · Comment

The iTunes app store was one of its kind on the internet when Apple opened it in July. But in the next 6 months the idea is set to be adopted by several companies. Google has announced that it has plans to expand into the market, while T-mobile, Microsoft and Symbian are expected to follow. Developers will be able to sell downloadable applications that will make mobile phones more useful and entertaining.

The appeal of an online app store is evident. 60 million apps have been downloaded from the iTunes app store. The store had an average of $1 million in sales everyday for the first month.

The app store is increasingly worrying for Microsoft in particular since the iPhone buzz is starting to dig into Microsoft market share in the Mobile Phone operating system market. Microsoft is expected to launch the Skymarket where it will sell apps for its operating system, Windows Mobile 7, which is expected to be released in 2009. Google will be doing so a little earlier as their Mobile operating system Andriod is anticipated to arrive later on this year, for which it will open the Android Marketplace. Which I think will be a significant blow to Apple since the andriod will be capable of operating on a range devices and therefore its app store will have a much larger market.
