It’s a constructive way to kill boredom. This can get extremely relaxing for people who have a passion for greenery. A passionate person like me would daily return to application like these to and repay a little rather than making friends with unseen faces!

A selective exposure to Facebook for applications like this can be a fun filled way to teach the little ones the importance of greenery, teach them the basics of gardening, importance of sunlight, watering and pesticides.

However, the humble motive behind the applications like (Lil) Green Patch is to save the depleting rain forests. Using the sponsorship revenue from advertisers the developers are making donations to the Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program. The more you grow, the more you gift, the more you get back. And each ‘flowery’ gift that a user of these applications sends or receives, contributes a lot in saving the planet. And for those who think it’s a mere wastage of time and resources to live an illusionary life, living your passions through a social networking site, this should serve as enough of an inspiration to join hands with the world in saving our mother earth. Come unite for the cause!

How do you make the best use of your Facebook account? “It’s a cheaper means of communicating”, “It helps me stay connected with my long distanced relatives”, “helps me kill time”, “I can build a strong social network” would be the most probable answers.

However the most innovative use of my account that I have discovered is to live my passion for green. Living in Delhi, accustomed to its polluted and hectic life, I had always had a longing for some greenery around. Exploring the Facebook applications the other day I found out that I can now afford the luxury of a personal garden and a farm!

Although online gardening would never let you breathe fresh but still can prove to be extremely passionate, relaxing and satisfying for the people with a green bent. Applications like, (Lil) Green Patch, Growing Gifts and myFarm allows you to grow a virtual farm or a garden, exchange ‘green’ gifts with your loved ones and also attach a personal message to it. What’s more, there are flowers for every occasion, mood and achievement!

The fun part is to see your gift, your garden or your farm grow over a period of time.
